Council seeks views on a borough-wide Play Strategy
7th June 2016 – Council seeks views on a borough-wide play strategy. Cheshire West and Chester Council has launched a public consultation to seek views on a draft Play Strategy for the Borough.
The draft strategy has been developed in close collaboration between the Council and local partners such as town and parish councils, voluntary sector organisations, community groups and housing associations. The draft Play Strategy consists of:
- A borough-wide strategy that provides guidance on policy and best practice in outdoor public play provision
- Four Locality Play Improvement Frameworks. (Chester, Ellesmere Port, Northwich/Winsford and Rural). These provide detailed analysis of play spaces and outdoor youth facilities at the Locality level
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing, Councillor Louise Gittins said: “Cheshire West and Chester Council is committed to helping our communities thrive and outdoor play facilities are an important part of our plans. Play is essential because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children and young people. I hope as many people as possible get involved in this consultation and give us their views.”
The public consultation will commence on Monday 6 June 2016 until Sunday 31 July 2016 and will inform the final presentation of the strategy to the Council for approval in the autumn this year.
Any resident, community group, school, other stakeholder interested in play can comment by viewing the draft play strategy documents online, and either complete an online or postal questionnaire, which can be found at: www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/PlayStrategy
