COUNCIL TO CONSULT ON SIMPLIFIED PLANNING CONTROLS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT BUSINESS GROWTH IN ELLESMERE PORT
8th March 2016 – Council to consult on simplified planning controls designed to support business growth in Ellesmere Port,
Cheshire West and Chester Council is taking a proactive approach to supporting business growth and development at a key employment site in Ellesmere Port.
The authority has developed a draft Local Development Order (LDO) for the town’s North Road Industrial site which, if fully approved, will grant automatic planning consent for certain types of development in the area.
Following endorsement from the Council’s Cabinet, public consultation has begun on the proposal, which supports the council’s pledge to support local business and economic growth.
Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure, Councillor Brian Clarke, said: “Developing an LDO for North Road is a positive and proactive move by the council to support regeneration and generate more investment and jobs.
“We are reinforcing Ellesmere Port’s role as a major Cheshire business location – making it an attractive option against strong competition from neighbouring areas including Deeside, Daresbury, Liverpool and Warrington.
“Simplifying the planning process will remove barriers to development by improving the speed, consistency and effectiveness of the process and preventing any unnecessary delays.”
The draft LDO proposes that planning permission is granted for certain types of development including extensions or alterations to existing buildings, change of use of buildings, the erection of higher fences around a site, the installation of CCTV, bike shelters and work to support the development of an energy network on site.
All of these developments will be subject to certain restrictions and limitations to ensure they consider environmental factors, neighbouring properties and nearby residential areas.
Chris Farrow, Chairman of the Ellesmere Port Development Board, which supports the proposal, said: “Beginning consultation on introducing an LDO for the North Road Industrial area reflects a determination locally to support existing and new businesses and do what we can to encourage growth in the local economy.
“Businesses are looking for less bureaucracy and red tape when investing in new premises or expanding existing property and Ellesmere Port has a growing reputation for making things happen.
“The LDO, alongside the town’s Assisted Area Status, will assist us in promoting Ellesmere Port in a highly competitive market.”
The Council has now begun public consultation on the proposals. Details on the Order can be found at http://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/consultations and in local libraries and Council buildings with comments made before 1st April 2016 by writing to Ellesmere Port Regeneration, Civic Way, Ellesmere Port, CH65 0BE or emailing email@example.com .
