CIVIC SQUARE TO HOST CHRISTMAS MARKET STALLS AND FREE VICTORIAN CAROUSEL
2 December 2014 – Ellesmere Port’s Civic Square is to host a small Christmas market and Victorian-style carousel for shoppers to enjoy in the festive season.
Following on from the success of last year local traders will sell food and drinks, flowers, festive gifts, and real Christmas trees from Wednesday 10 December until the end of the day on Sunday, December 14.
Funded by the Council, the market and classic carousel will surround an illuminated Christmas tree on the square. The carousel will be free to ride and operated from 11am until 6pm.
The market will offer the wares of local businesses including Max Woollard of MW Ground Maintenance selling real Christmas trees and Sarah Boyle of Simply the Best Florist selling festive wreaths, flowers, and posies.
Montague Café of Whitby Road and Rene Hoek and John Nuttall of Au Beurre will also sell festive hot food and drinks to shoppers and passerby.
Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Councillor Brian Jones, said: “It will be lovely to see so much activity in Civic Square at this time of year – it has become a focal hub for celebrations throughout the Christmas festive period.
“A classic carousel and illuminated Christmas tree are accompanying the cabins – creating a festive ambiance in the town centre and I would encourage local residents and shoppers to come down, have a look and enjoy a hot drink.”
The carousel will operate between 11am and 6pm each day, which will also form the core trading hours of the market. Some traders will be open from early in the morning and Au Beurre will be selling breakfast and hot drinks from 8am until late.
Max Woollard, MW Ground Maintenance, said: “We’re looking forward to joining Cheshire West and Chester Council for this year’s Christmas market in Ellesmere Port.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for us to be involved in the festivities and we are pleased to be able to bring premium quality Christmas trees to the town centre for all to view and purchase at affordable prices.”
The trees used for the display in the accompanied picture have been kindly donated by Max Woollard to the Ellesmere Port Cottage Hospital and the Whitby Sports and Social Club.
The Council is looking forward to a busy week on Civic Square, promoting it as the beating heart of the town. For more information on this and other upcoming local events please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
