RESIDENTS INVITED TO SPECIAL REMEMBRANCE SERVICE TO COMMEMORATE START OF WWI

28 July 2014 – Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Councillor Brian Jones, is inviting people to attend a Remembrance Service on Monday, August 4 at 11am, to mark the day when Britain declared war on Germany in 1914.

After weeks of speculation and mounting pressures Britain finally declared war at 11pm on this day 100 years ago.

Councillor Jones said: “I am very keen to get involved in marking the centenary year of when Britain declared war on Germany in 1914.

The remembrance service, which will take place in the town’s Civic Square, will be lead by the Reverend Gordon McGuinness.

After weeks of speculation and mounting pressures Britain finally declared war at 11pm on this day 100 years ago.

We cannot let this significant milestone pass us by without showing our respect for those who fought for our freedom a hundred years ago and I would encourage all Ellesmere Port residents who wish to pay their respects to join us on Civic Square at 11am.”
